Best airtight food storage containers: five sets for the pantry, the fridge and the lunch bag, on the makers' rules

Food containers are three products sold under one name: canisters for dry goods, boxes for leftovers, and boxes that carry lunch without leaking. Buying one set for all three gets a drawer of mismatched lids. Five sets from OXO, Rubbermaid, Snapware, Pyrex and Sistema, compared on sizes, materials, seals and the makers' own microwave, oven, freezer and dishwasher rules.

Anker 100W 3-Port charger (B121B) review: 100 watts to one port, a screen you stop reading, a cable you need

A 100-watt GaN charger with two USB-C ports and a USB-A, folding prongs, a 5 A cable in the box and a display that shows what each port is drawing. It replaces a 16-inch MacBook Pro's brick and a phone charger with one 7.5 oz cube. This review is about what the display is for, what the cable is for, and what the laptop gets when the phone is plugged in beside it.

BenQ ScreenBar Pro review: the monitor light that knows when you sit down, on BenQ's figures

A 19.7-inch bar that clamps on top of the monitor, lights a 33 by 20 inch desk to 500 lux with none of it on the screen, offers eight color temperatures and sixteen brightness steps, and switches itself on when an ultrasonic sensor sees you sit down. It costs as much as two good desk lamps. This review is about what the money buys and the two things it does not do.

Best compact USB-C chargers: six from 30 to 140 watts, by what each port actually gets

The watt figure on a charger is what one port gets when nothing else is plugged in. Plug in a second device and some chargers drop to 15 W shared, some publish a split, and some leave you to find out. Six compact GaN chargers from UGREEN, Belkin and Anker, 30 to 140 W, compared on total output, the published split, ports, size and weight from the makers.

Best cordless stick vacuums for an apartment: six from 5.2 to 8.1 pounds, on the makers' own run times

In an apartment a cordless stick is the only vacuum: light enough for a flight of stairs, small enough for a closet, and able to do 900 square feet on one charge — while makers quote run time in the mode you will never use. Six sticks from Dyson, Shark, Samsung, Bissell and Eureka, compared on weight, run time per mode, charge, bin and warranty as the makers publish them.

Daypack or laptop backpack as a personal item? Osprey Daylite Plus vs Matein Mlassic, against the 18 x 14 x 8 rule

A 20-liter hiking daypack at 1.3 lb that carries beautifully and is an inch over the personal-item line on paper, or a 28-liter laptop backpack at 1.7 lb cut to the 18 x 14 x 8 box that fits the rule and looks like every bag at the gate. On Delta or Southwest the Osprey is the nicer bag. On Frontier, at a sizer, the Matein is the one that flies free.

Best desk lamps for a home office: a monitor bar, a clamp arm for calls and three folding lamps, on the makers' lumens

A desk lamp does one of three jobs: lights the paperwork, lights the keyboard without glaring in the monitor, or lights your face for calls. No single lamp does all three. Five picks — a monitor light bar, a clamp arm with a swiveling head, two folding lamps and a USB gooseneck — compared on lumens, color temperature, power and footprint from the makers.

Dyson V8 vs V12 Detect Slim: is the laser worth twice the price for an apartment?

The V8 is Dyson's entry stick: 5.6 lb, up to 40 minutes, a five-hour charge, no screen. The V12 Detect Slim is lighter at 5.2 lb, runs up to 60 minutes, charges in four, and adds a laser on the hard-floor head and a dust-counting display — at roughly twice the price. For a hard-floor apartment the V12 is the better vacuum; whether it is twice as good is the question.

Glass vs plastic food containers: Snapware and Pyrex against Rubbermaid Brilliance, on the makers' rules

Glass goes in the oven, does not stain and does not carry smells; it weighs three times as much and breaks on a tile floor. Plastic travels, seals and survives a drop; it colors with tomato over years and never sees an oven. The question is which job each container does, and the makers' own rules for microwave, oven, freezer and dishwasher settle more of it than opinion does.
